Head in the Clouds

These last two weeks I haven’t felt grounded, too many schedules and not enough time to focus. In a sense, you could say my head has been in the clouds. Our bodies are made of matter and all matter requires stability and structure or how will you be able to face all the opposing forces in the universe. I’ve come to realize that I need to take a few days and bring my head out of the clouds and work on my Muladhara. The Muladhara is the base chakra which also means ‘root’. The base chakra is the closet energy center to the Earth and it’s what links us to the planet.
Imbalances of the base chakra can show up anytime and in many ways. You may have a lack of energy, exhaustion following even slight exercise (yep), problems showing up with your legs and feet. In addition, you find yourself being critical of your body, almost to the point where your totally uncomfortable which can lead to lack of drive or motivation.
Like our adrenal glands, the base chakra is connected with our circulatory system and blood supply. It also influences the skeletal muscle of our arms, legs and torso helping us move through the world. Our base chakra is linked to the color red and it’s responsible for maintaining our core temperature. If we don’t have the right core temperature then our cells can’t have the right chemical reactions.
Where does that leave us ?
To bring yourself out of the clouds and to re-energize the base chakra you need to add a few things to your routine. You can take a warm bath and add some aromatherapy. Massages are wonderful but if you don’t have time for a full body massage just have someone rub your feet. When you focus your attention to your feet your immediately bringing attention to your circulation (walking, running, jumping or stamping your feet) are all good examples of helping the flow of circulation to the root chakra. You would laugh right now if you could see me typing while stomping my feet to some drum music. If you want to get your root moving may I also recommend some music that is nothing but drumming, the beat will move your soul.
Changing your eating habits will also help. I noticed that my protein level was really low; another sure indicator of why I may have this spaciness. Tonight I’m having chicken with fresh tomato salsa and when I have time I will try some meditation. If grounding is what is needed why not focus my mind on becoming a tree and allow my feet to become one with the earth.

I’ll leave you with a great quote from the author’s Sue and Simon Lilly “Our sense of self, and desire to live, are the hidden roots of our existence; this is the ground of our being that sustains us constantly”.
